All applications submitted to EACCME for European accreditation are reviewed according to very high-quality criteria and by medical specialists active in the field.

Accreditation by EACCME therefore means that the CME/CPD activity provided is of high scientific value, is free of commercial bias and promotes active adult learning.

This is of paramount importance to doctors who need to report to their National Accreditation Authority on their CME/CPD activity over a certain period of time, and this even more now that many national systems are (becoming) mandatory and not voluntary.

As all EACCME accredited events are published on the EACCME platform, doctors can easily find an EACCME accredited event to attend according to their field of interest.

By attending an EACCME accredited event, they will be able to obtain European CME credits (ECMEC) which are recognized not only in a majority of European countries (with which the EACCME has signed agreements), but also in the USA and Canada. By handing in their EACCME certificate to their National Accreditation Authority, their credits will automatically be recognized and converted into national credits.

EACCME accreditation is widely recognized and attracts many international participants and learners.

In order for a participant of a CME accredited eLearning course to be eligible to be awarded with the relevant to each eLearning course CME credits (European CME Credits | ECMEC®s) they must:

  1. Complete a CME Accredited eLearning course to its full without skipping, forwarding etc. the eLearning course material
  2. Complete the “Course Completion Quiz” that is part of each eLearning course with a passing grade of 70% or higher.
  3. Complete the “Course Evaluation Form” that is part of each eLearning course
  4. Provide the related EACCME certificate to their National Accreditation Authority, their credits will automatically be recognized and converted into national credits. Please check which countries recognize EACCME credits.

Each medical specialist should claim only those credits awarded by each educational activity. EACCME is an institution of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS). Only those e-learning materials that are displayed on the UEMS-EACCME website have formally been accredited.

Europe

EACCME® has signed agreements with the following countries:

Austria, Armenia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Finland, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Regione Lombardia, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Tunisia, Turkey, United Kingdom

The countries with which EACCME® has signed agreements will recognize EACCME® credits.

All the other countries may recognize EACCME® credits on a voluntary basis. For these countries you will also need to apply to the central or relevant regional accreditation authority.

USA

UEMS-EACCME® has had an agreement of mutual recognition of credits with the American Medical Association (AMA) for live educational events and for e-learning materials since the year 2000. The agreement was renewed in 2018 for another 4 years.

The issue of territoriality is very important; both organizations are fully responsible for the activities taking place or organized within their remit. UEMS-EACCME® is the central body for accrediting events in Europe and AMA is the central body for recognition of CME credits in the USA.

E-learning activities need to be certified for credit by the process in place where the CME provider is based, i.e., AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ for U.S. CME providers and ECMEC® credit for organizations in countries that are represented by the UEMS. Information on the process to convert EACCME credit to AMA credit can be found at www.ama-assn.org/education/earn-credit-participation-international-activities.

Canada

UEMS-EACCME® has an agreement of mutual recognition of credits with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) for live educational events since the year 2011.

The issue of territoriality is very important; both organizations are fully responsible for the activities taking place or organized within their remit. UEMS-EACCME® is the central body for accrediting events in Europe and  RCPSC is the central body for accrediting events in Canada through its accredited providers.
